Mrs. Marilyn Denise Anderson Slone

The celebration of life honoring Mrs. Marilyn Denise Anderson Slone will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the memorial chapel of Precious Memories Mortuary, 4017 Greenwood Road.

Mrs. Slone will lie in state on Friday between the hours of 12:0 noon - 8:00 p.m. at Precious Memories Mortuary.

The journey began on March 19, 1957. She was born to Richard Anderson and the late Jessie M. Owens Carruthers.

            She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She became a member of the Galilee Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. E. Edward Jones; she later united with the St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Freddie James where she was a member until her failing health declined.

            She attended public schools in Caddo Parish and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She served as a waitress at Freeman Harris Cage and Pete Harris Café. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She was affectionately called “Hammer” by her friends and loved ones.

            She was married to the late James Slone, Sr. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Mae Owens Carruthers. On February 20, 2019 she answered Heaven’s call and her journey ended.

            She leaves to cherish her memories: father, Oscar Carruthers, III; daughters: Datril Anderson, Nausha Lewis, and Reca Lewis, grandchildren: Christian Davis, Cameron Davis, Nathaniel Lewis, S’Niya Gantt, and Ramone Gantt, Jr., sister Shelia Carruthers Williams, brothers: Melvin Anderson, Victor Anderson, and Oscar Carruthers, IV (LeTricia), and aunt Jerrline Young. She also leaves a host of relatives and friends.
