Dexter Myles Benton celebrated his 61st birthday on June 30, 2019 with his family and church friends. Four days later (July 4, 2019), God wrapped his arms around him and gave him his wings. He was the oldest son of Samiel Benton and Alta Mae Watson Benton who were awaiting him at the Golden Gates with four of his siblings, two brothers, Bobby & Darrell and two sisters, Doris & Yolanda.
He was educated in the Waskom School System. After reaching adulthood he attended Marshall Sheltered Workshop and Community Health Core. He was Baptist at an early age at the New Boggy Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Clarence Williams and Rev. Lonnie Hamilton. He loved church and all of his church family who were always there for him and his family. While in High School, he was remembered by a science teacher who asked him, "Who said the earth was round"? Dexter replied, "You did!" This followed him throughout High School.
Dexter loved all sports. His favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys, who, he referred to as "Them ole Boys!" He treasured being with his family and watching his favorite TV shows, Law and Order, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Channel 12 new, and the games shows. He always enjoyed playing dominoes, checkers, putting puzzles together, traveling and going on vacation. The one most important thing to him was his WATCH. He would get at least 2-3 each Christmas and on his birthday. He could tell time to the minute and wanted everyone to do the same.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his siblings, Brenda (Clemmie) Hill and Kendrick (Ken Boy); one uncle, Willie Fred (Vera) Watson Sr; Aunt Mary Ella Watson; Three nieces, Lakesha (Mark) Hill Manning, Kimberly 'Laney' (Andre) Jimmerson and Anastasia (Tarik) Combs; three nephews, Darrell Wayne Benton, Dillion Mile Benton, and Kalmadge (Kat) Hill; four great nieces, Carnesha and Breia Manning, Kortnee Altae Jimmerson, Jayla Young, and Zaria Combs; four great nephews.
